Disabilities Discrimination Act Compliancy
The
Disabilities Discrimination Act (
DDA)
has placed a lot of complex new rules and regulations on web site
construction. Largely these are concerned with blind or partially
sighted people who may wish to view your site. Total Web Sitemaster CMS
sites meet level 1 as standard but higher standards are offered as an
option.
In the UK, making your web site accessible is the law.
That
law is not vague, nor are the standards that are used to apply it. If
your web site is not compliant, then your business is exposed to legal
action.
With regard to standards for disabled access we recommend level 1 & 2 as stated in the
Bobby /
W3 Consortium
guidelines. The current legislation for the UK is only level 1 but the
European standard is level 2 and it is quite feasible that Britain will
adopt this standard in the near future. Total Web usually try and
achieve Level 3 (the highest level) where the client requires this.
NB: It is important to note that if
W3CAAA
compliancy is opted for, all facility will exist within the content
management system to produce a front end site which meets this
standard, however the client must understand that any content which
they add to the site must also meet this standard. Total Web can offer
advice on this subject as it becomes necessary.
